CHILLER Efficiencies - Why less is more? From "Habagat-II", Floods, dripping roofs, sweating walls...

During the past few days (August 19-21, 2013) when the Philippines had been battered by torrential monsoon rains that was enhanced by the  tropical storm Maring (International name 'Trami') that brought floods to about 60% of the nations capital, I began to think about what would be a good topic to do next for my blog. When the rain stopped and the skies began to be a bit more brighter than the previous days, I went out of our house to check out our surroundings and a man approached me and said that he offers to fix the leaks of our house and whatnot just the same as what he did on the other houses in the neighborhood. As lucky as me and my family were, to have a home and a neighborhood free of floods; we weren't so blessed to stay in a place that had no dripping ceilings, leaking walls, etc.. Apparently, after I invited him in and we inspected the exterior walls, interior walls, roof and other stuff, the man said that the paint used on the exterior walls of o

Hormones and "Relative Humidity (RH)"... ---- Will be fun!

Yesterday, while enduring the absolutely tiring drive from Edsa Shangrila to Sucat, at the peak of rush hour about 8pm, I was talking to my two lady passengers about this thing I read on Facebook some time ago about what happens to men and women who have their first baby. I told them that the article mentioned that when a man and woman have their "Unica and or "Unica Hijo" , their hormones drop by 50% as studied by some doctors. A man looses 50% of his testosterone and 50% of estrogen for women but the article also mentioned that it eventually recovers indefinitely until the baby is old enough to at least be less dependent of the parents as a baby. This, as what the article mentioned is a way for nature to make sure that the offspring is taken care of so that the parents will focus more on the 1st born rather than making a new one immediately after. Ok, so, after I shared that to my passengers, immediately I was asked "how about those people who have a second ba

The AHRI Directory.... What is it for?

Let's face it, in our industry, everyone is saying "we're the most efficient" and everyone tells you about how wonderful their equipment is compared to others. Well, I'm about 98% sure that if ever you are indeed part of the HVAC industry in the Philippines then at some point in your life you've already heard/read the same statement. Now, depending on how well informed you are, when people say these things, your response would be of four possible outcomes..... and those would be: To agree. To disagree. I need more details. You don't care. I just care about the price. If ever you are the person who would answer either 4 and or 5, then this is not for you. Just know that there is no right or wrong answer for this and the reason for me to say this is that I do not want to waste your time so please click the little "x" button on the right side of the tab or press "ctrl+x" now. Ill make another blog post dedicated

The Refrigeration Cycle - In Layman terms.... hopefully... hehehehe :DDDD

One of my ex-colleagues from Trane mentioned to make entries from my blog as non-technical as possible. Immediately upon reading the comment on my Facebook post, I started pondering about what to write that could possibly be written in Layman terms. After a day or so thinking about it, still I didn’t have a topic in mind. However, last Saturday, when my boss and I had a meeting with an owner of a mall in Bacolod City; during the drive from the hotel to the meeting location, I began to think again what could be an interesting topic that could fit what my ex-colleague described then suddenly I found it! While I was discussing with my boss the details of the size of the equipment for the mall it came to me: what about the refrigeration cycle??? At first you might react “OMG, WTF is a refrigeration cycle! Non-technical? Are you kidding me??? F@$ck you!” but I just want you to know that the intent here is not to find a “non technical” topic but rather make a techni

How do Chiller Plants and Chillers unload? - The practical guide

How does chillers unload? How do chiller plants unload? by: Pedro Guererro After years of talking to people from different trades of the HVAC Industry in the Philippines, I have come to a conclusion that the level of knowledge on this topic is not yet so matured. Thus, as one of my goals to help the industry in our country to some extent move forward with what they know, I have decided to put some time and effort to simplify this seemingly complex topic. I know I may not be a decorated person and what I say here might not appeal to you that much because of this but I assure you, I am well capable of explaining the science of this and what I share to you is not by my own invention or whatever but it is what I learned through my experience, education, and backed up by over 100 years of knowledge from the company that I work with. Should I have not addressed the necessary information for you to understand then please do let me know so that we
